Hustle
With this upbeat, high-energy swing dance, you can “Do the Hustle” to any up-tempo, fast-paced music from any genre or era. Starting in the Bronx from the Puerto Rican “Latin Hustle” in 1970, it quickly became known as “the Hustle” in New York City Disco clubs.
EAST COAST SWING
A popular social dance that is often characterized by lifts, spins, and flips. East Coast Swing is upbeat, as in Jive and Jitterbug, triple steps and rock steps to Big Band or contemporary music that Swings! This dance (and all contemporary Swing) has its roots with the Lindy Hop dances done at the great Savoy Ballroom in Harlem in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
WEST COAST SWING
Smooth (no bounce) and danced in a slot, the West Coast Swing allows room for syncopated footwork and improvisation. Freedom can be expressed within a wide range of music including Rhythm and Blues, Country Western, Funk, Disco, Rock and Pop. In some ways considered slower and more polished then East Coast Swing, with a possible Blues undertone. This dance (and all contemporary Swing) has its roots with the Lindy Hop dances done at the great Savoy Ballroom in Harlem in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
